Techno

Techno is a genre of electronic dance music (EDM) that emerged in Detroit, Michigan, in the United States during the mid-to-late 1980s. The style is generally repetitive and instrumental, characterized by a regular, 4/4 beat typically created by a drum machine, and a tempo usually between 120 to 150 beats per minute.

Techno music tends to focus heavily on the use of synthesisers, drum machines, and digital audio workstations. It is distinguished by its emphasis on futuristic sounds, often produced using innovative technology and production techniques.

The genre was originally associated with an underground movement, but it has since grown to become a prominent genre within electronic music. Early influential artists include Juan Atkins, Derrick May, and Kevin Saunderson, often referred to as the “Belleville Three” after the high school they attended in Belleville, Michigan.

Since its inception, techno has evolved into a multitude of subgenres and has influenced the development of many other styles of music. Today, it is a staple of the global EDM scene, with major festivals, clubs, and DJs dedicated to the genre.
